What You’re (Probably) Getting Wrong About Race

Today’s Sunday Sermon:

You believe racialized identities are real. (They’re not.)

You believe your skin color means something. (It doesn’t.)

You believe G-d identifies with a race. (Race is post-biblical.)

You believe your hair texture and facial features mean something. (They don’t.)

You don’t believe your brain is hardwired for pigmentation or phenotypic bias. (It is…just like mine.)

You believe that having a lighter complexion (e.g., pale-skinned, tan-skinned, olive-skinned, etc.), plus lightly melanated irises (e.g., blue eyes, green eyes, etc.) holds deep meaning, automatically deems a human being super safe or super special and offers Salvation. (It doesn’t.)

Resources For Curious Minds

Suggested Reading: The Trouble With Race and Its Many Shades of Deceit by Drs. Subrena E. Smith and David Livingstone Smith.

Must Watch: I’ve created a YouTube playlist entitled The Racialization Process, so you can better understand how and why the pseudo-science of race was invented.

Must Watch: Put on your critical thinking hat and grab a tissue box to watch Origin (directed by Ava DuVernay), a film adaptation of Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents, by Isabel Wilkerson.
